YRDSB Welcome

Welcome Back!

As we prepare for yet another school year, there are several items and routines for all of us to get back into now that September is here. Thinking about getting a great start for the school year, try these helpful tips:

Re-establish bed routines that are consistent with a good night's sleep by getting to bed earlier so that waking up for school is easier;Remember to pack your school backpack the night before with things you'll need such as a change of clothes for our youngest students or a hat, sunscreen and reusable water bottle;Pack a healthy nut-free lunch with fruits, vegetables and a favourite sandwich;Come ready to meet new and old friends and staff at PG and remember to give everyone a chance to fit in and be a part of our great PG environment! Parents please check for all your childs transportation needs. Become familiar with bus routes, pick up and drop off times and what to do if the bus is late or does not show up.

Supporting Youth After Tragic Events

In light of the many recent tragic events that have occured in several communities over the past few months, it is worthwhile to recognize how this contributes to our children's stress and mental health and well-being. Below are some tips from YRDSB on how to support children through this.
Tips for Speaking with your Child after a Tragic Event 1. Reassure children that they are safe. Emphasize that schools are very safe. Validate their feelings. Explain that all feelings are okay when a tragedy occurs. Let children talk about their feelings, help put them into perspective, and assist them in expressing these feelings appropriately. 2. Make time to talk. Let their questions be your guide as to how much information to provide. Be patient. Children and youth do not always talk about their feelings readily. Watch for clues that they may want to talk, such as hovering around while you do the dishes or yard work. Some children prefer writing, playing music, or doing an art project as an …

Being Safe in Our Community

It’s time to remind children about being safe in our community.

It’s a good time for parents to remind children about personal safety.
Here's what children need to know:
Their name, age, telephone number, address, city and province. This can be done through rhyme or song. How to contact their parents at any time, by memorizing cell or work numbers. How and under what circumstances to call 911.To never approach or enter a stranger's vehicle.A responsible adult would never ask a child for directions or any other question for that matter.Make sure they know they have a right to say "no" to an adult, especially when the adult is asking them to do something they have been taught is wrong or feels uncomfortable.Reminding children of this right is important because children are taught from a young age to respect adults. To always tell parents where they will be and to never enter someone's home without their pare…

Strategic Planning at YRDSB

Contribute to Strategic Planning at YRDSB - Upcoming Town Halls
York Region District School Board is revisioning its Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-being. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of public education in York Region public schools. The MYP incorporates the direction established by the Trustees with feedback received from all stakeholders, and will inform decision making at the Board in the years to come. Town halls will be taking place across the region and feedback collected from families and community members will inform the creation of a new MYP. Your voice is important and your input and feedback will help York Region District School Board support student achievement and well-being. There will also be other opportunities, including a survey available in April, to share your thoughts if you are unable to attend a town hall.
